Living room accessories: copper, blue and coral

living room accessories - copper, coral and blue

When we moved into our house 18 months ago the living room was one of the first rooms we tackled. Renovations included taking out the dated gas fireplace and replacing it with a wood burner (best decision ever), as well as having new windows and external glass doors fitted. We invested in a new cream sofa (bit of a silly decision with a dog and baby but hey ho), gave it a lick of paint and dressed it with all of the obvious things (curtains, photographs, shelves etc). copper, blue and coral living room accessories

And then we moved onto another room and never really added the finishing accessories or gave it a proper identity.

Now that we’re spending a lot more time on the sofa in the evenings (watching reality shows I wouldn’t like to admit to) I’ve been thinking that I’d really like to add all of those finishing touches to give it that wow factor (X Factor). Mr M gets jittery whenever he sees me looking around a room having ‘those thoughts’, dreading my subsequent requests for him to hang some wallpaper or drill some more holes in the wall for yet more shelves. But he needn’t worry – I have this one in hand.

Our living room is currently painted in a warm stone colour and there’s lots of oak (coffee table, mantel mirror, TV stand). Last year we added a teal rug and bought some cushions with teal, but aside from that it doesn’t have much in the way of a colour scheme. I seem to be having a bit of a love affair with copper at the moment – probably because it’s in every home magazine that I read and every home store that I visit – and I think this could go really well with what we have so far. I also have two coral chevron cushions which I’d love to incorporate and so I’ve decided on the colour scheme of copper, coral and teal blue. Toned down with the oak and cream sofa I think it could work really well.

Thanks Emma! Copper really is great and the good news is that it seems to be everywhere at the minute. I went in Homesense the other day and they have some great pieces if you have one of those near you. x

Now this is a really great color scheme. Young and fresh just like your young family. I say go for it. I really like the color of that table it is just right not too dark. It would complement your cream sofa. Do you have any pics of how your living room looks so far?

Not yet but I will have to take some before and afters once we get around to giving it the makeover. I do love this colour scheme so I think we will go for it – I’d better start the fun task of shopping 🙂

This is a beautiful colour combination, I wasn’t sure about copper originally when it first turned up in all the shops but now I really love it. I think the blue, coral and copper go so well together, we’ve got a primarily grey theme but I still don’t know what else to pair it up with although we won’t be decorating it probably until 2017 so a long way to go to make up my mind! x #HomeEtc

Thanks! I know what you mean about copper – it has really grown on me since it first came out. We seem to have a growing grey trend throughout our house and I’ve started to add in bold colours recently which I think look fab with grey. I recently added pink to our grey bedroom which I wrote a post about, but also love the yellow/grey combo too. I’m pretty sure our living room won’t get finished until 2017 either if we carry on at our current rate! But I can dream x

Hi Natalie, Mmmm what a gorgeous colour scheme. We did the exact same thing with our living room when we moved in (a 75% job), although left only the fireplace and carpet the same – The opposite to you…we are just looking at new fireplaces in time for Christmas. I have a major thing for Coral, and love the pairing of it with the Blue – unusual but it works! Thanks for linking up your beautiful mood board to #coolmumclub x MMT (Sarah)

Ah we loved having our fireplace for Christmas last year – we had it on every day and it made the house feel super cosy and felt lovely once the Christmas tree went up. I can’t believe I’m getting excited about Christmas already – where has the year gone? Glad you like the colours, when we will get round to actually implementing any of my ideas is another matter entirely! 🙂 xx

This room looks like you, or at least the you I’ve seen through the blog. Light, airy, fun, with a twist! The paint color is so pretty and I love the patterns. Copper is really gorgeous and with that blue, it really is stunning. I checked out the copper stag’s head, I love the craftsmanship, and it really isn’t too expensive, for such a cool piece. I so wish we had a fireplace, it’s getting cold here and it would feel so good. One day we are having one put in, it makes a house a cozy home. Doesn’t it?

Ah thanks so much Nikki, you are always so kind! I do love the paint colour – I think it would make a great feature wall. The fireplace we added is definitely one of the best investments we made in the house when we first bought it. It’s pretty cold here now and we’ve been lighting it on the evenings this week and it’s super cosy! It’s a wood burning stove so it also helps heat up the rest of the house – which is a good job as our heating system is pretty temperamental! I like the light, airy and fun (with a twist) perception – I’ll take that! 🙂 x

Finishing touches make such a difference to a room. I love the theme – copper seems to be very ‘in’ at the moment. I also really like the John Lewis lamp – pricey but worth it. I wish I was revamping our living room – it definitely needs it! Thanks for sharing #KCACOLS

I love your colour scheme! My lounge is red and browns, we have lots of old, battered oak and I love it. We need new carpets and decorating though and I love having ‘those thoughts’. I’ve just rearranged our lounge and it’s definitely looking more cosy these days, I’d love to re-do everything though. 🙂

I love this Natalie!! The colour scheme is beautiful and classic. I love that floor lamp, looks fab! I’m currently looking for one as mine is broken so this looks great! I will have a look at John Lewis. All those accessories will definitely make a difference , they will give a coziness to your living room!! I redecorated my living room 2 years ago before I got Sienna and I went for a modern style and colour scheme (red with white). I know it is not everybody’s cup of tea but it works for now. I’ll probably be bored soon and I will like to change it for a classic look!! LOL Thanks so much for joining me at #KCACOLS. As you know I love having you here. BTW, I received your email and I’ll reply soon. 😉 xxx
