I wrote about how I’ve been swooning after a bright home office last year. So with one of my new year’s resolutions to ‘get more organised’ I’ve decided to make it a reality!
When we first moved into our current home, the nook in the guest room provided the perfect space for my dressing table. But to be honest, I never really used it as I like to get pretty close to the mirror when ‘putting my face on’ and I don’t find that sitting on a stool behind a table really helps with this! So the dresser was a little redundant…
When browsing Ikea online for a white desk one day, I had a eureka moment – why not just transform the dresser? And so I set about this transformation, unscrewing the mirror and drawers and replacing the stool with a Ghost style arm chair.
I wanted the space to be modern and clean, so I decided on a colour scheme of black and white, with pops of yellow, which I think goes really well with the existing sky blue wall colour and blends well with the rest of the room – by far the most colourful in our house. The desk is also next to a window, which is perfect for creating a bright home office (and for day dreaming/ staring into space, which I tend to do a lot!)
The shelf is from Wilkos (I won’t tell you about how I put it up in one of my impatient ‘don’t need a man to do it’ moments without a drill – and how it subsequently fell down again…) and I designed the artwork in Canva after finding some ideas on Pinterest. I printed all of the artwork at one of the instant photo kiosks in Boots and bought the black frames also from Wilkos. Yes, the office artwork is a little cliche…but why not? What’s not to love about an inspirational quote after all?!
I spotted the desk lamp in my favourite shop of all time – Homesense. I can’t remember exactly how much it cost, but as with all of my finds in there, it was a bargain. I also picked up this quirky magazine rack at the same time, which I think cost around £20.
I found this peg organiser in Primark for £4 which goes with the black and white theme perfectly and provides a great place for all of those ‘to do’ notes and lists which I seem to be so fond of writing.
I think all I need to finish it off would be a black and white stripey rug which would help to further separate the space from the rest of the room (and make sure I don’t get ink all over the carpet – which is pretty likely if you ask Mr M). I’d also like some more artwork for the wall to the left of me – I’m thinking some black and white family pics would finish it off a treat.
So, what do you think?
