Friday morning started out like any other morning in our household. And then two extraordinary things happened…
The first was that Taylor actually gave me a massive bear hug and held onto my leg as I dropped her off at nursery. For a self-proclaimed Daddy’s girl, this was quite an accomplishment for me.
The second happened when I got back home, went for a wee and had a scroll through Twitter whilst sat on the toilet (obvs). I saw that the Brilliance in Blogging awards (#BiBs2016) shortlist had been announced and clicked through to see if any bloggers I knew had been shortlisted.
I had of course put myself forward for the awards, but never in my wildest dreams did I expect to be on the list. I scrolled through all of the categories – taking note of all of the brilliant blogs I’ve become a fan of. And then there it was – ‘Mum in Brum’ – in the Family category!! It’s a good job I was sat in the toilet at the time as I probably wet myself a little.
Seconds later, a congratulatory tweet from New Mummy Blog confirmed I wasn’t seeing things. So it was time for a solo celebration dance with Max (yes, dogs can dance) before calling the hubby to tell him the news. Having lost a housewife in the process of me establishing this blog, he was pretty happy to hear that it has apparently all been worthwhile.
I’m genuinely overjoyed to be shortlisted and see my name up there with some of my blogging heroes – the ones who inspired me to start blogging in the first place (Not Another Mummy Blog, The Unmumsy Mum). And to be in the highly contested family category is such an honour – I’ve loved sharing the journey of our little family so far and it’s a great feeling knowing that other people enjoy reading my nap time ramblings.
From the bottom of my heart – thank you to every single one of you who took the time to fill in that form and put our name down.
I don’t have an army of family and friends to vote for me (#gettheviolinout) and most of those I do have (I hope won’t mind me saying) are more than a bit crap at this sort of thing. My hubby actually ‘forgot’ to nominate me for this award (#namedandshamed)…
So if you’ve remotely enjoyed my blog over the past 15 months it would mean the world to me to have your vote. Voting is now open for everyone to choose their favourites from the ten shortlisted in each category. The two with the most votes, plus another three selected by the judging panel will then make up the five finalists within each category. 200,000 nominations and votes were cast last year!
If you’d like to vote for me, it’s super easy – just requiring your name, email and your selection within category 13. You can find the voting form for #BiBs2016 here, or by clicking on the badge at the bottom of this post.
And finally, a huge congrats to every blogger who has been shortlisted, including those within my own category who have become some of my favourite go-to blogs. Without the support and encouragement of the blogging community I would have never even thought to enter myself.
Thanks a bunch you lovely lot x
