I’m not a huge fan of public speaking, so a long, eloquent acceptance speech is not really my bag. I think I just about managed to compose myself on Saturday, but when Carol Smillie read my name out as the winner of the Family category at the BiBs award ceremony, it took me completely by surprise – and what a bloody brilliant surprise it was! So here’s me saying another massive THANK YOU a little more eloquently…
Back when I wrote this post about putting myself up for the BritMums Brilliance in Blogging Awards (BiBs), never in my wildest dreams did I expect to get shortlisted. I nearly didn’t even bother nominating myself and probably wouldn’t have done if it wasn’t for a little nudge from some lovely fellow bloggers (thank you!)
Once shortlisted and over 50,000 votes later, I never expected to become one of the five finalists, and then even though I had a one in five chance of winning on Saturday, I honestly never really considered that I actually would.
Getting on the train home an hour after receiving my award was a bit of an anti-climax – all I really wanted to do was raise (quite a few) glasses to myself and get sozzled…but I did have time to think on the train home, pat myself of the back and think “Well, why the hell not me?” After all, I like my blog – I write it. So why wouldn’t others?
I wrote a post recently about the need for all of us to ‘be more Kanye‘ – to believe that we are bloody great at what we do and not to shy away from thinking and saying so. Attending BritMums Live on Saturday was so inspiring – to hear how others have made a living from their blogs and through diversifying and through seeing an opportunity and just going for it. I’m now buzzing with creativity and fresh ideas for the possibilities, and winning this award has made me see that anything really is possible through hard work, passion and determination.
So all that’s really left to say is thank you. Thank you for your votes and for taking the time to read my posts over the past 18 months, and for your supportive comments and your Friday #FFs. And thank you to the judges who picked me. It all means so much.
And well done to all of the finalists, all of those shortlisted and everyone who pours their heart and soul into their blog each week – stay true to yourself and believe in what you do.
And of course, not forgetting the cheeky face that inspires me every day…
