Since we took up sailing as a family, we’ve been planning our summer summer staycation. We’ve been waiting for the warm weather to return, but with no promises from the forecasters we decided to just go for it last week! So off we drove to Plymouth where the boat is moored.
It was the first time we’d been on the boat with just the hubby and I to sail it, so it was a bit of a test for us. And I have to say, I think I’m a pretty good First Mate! I got told off a few times for back chatting but on the whole we had fun – and got there safely!
During the week we sailed to the River Yealm for one night which is a two hour sail. It was beautiful there and we even had a little bit of sunshine. Later in the week we made the four hour sail to Salcombe, which was a huge confidence booster for us both. Taylor slept for most of the sail (lucky!) so I was able to really learn the ropes (sorry!) and get to grips with the whole sailing side of things.
Salcombe really is beautiful but unfortunately the weather was pretty miserable for us and Taylor was a bit of a grump…but we made the most of it and hope to return again in August. This photo was taken on one of Salcombe’s beaches – Taylor was loving the sea despite it being freezing cold! I think Max enjoyed it the most though!
