Petit Pai – new organic skincare range for children (review and giveaway)

Petit pai skincare range for children

Any parent with a baby or child who suffers from eczema knows that it can be quite upsetting. Thankfully, Taylor’s eczema isn’t constant, but it does tend to flare up on a weekly basis and we’ve had many trips to the doctors to try various lotions and potions to help keep it under control. It’s particularly difficult in the summer months when she has her arms and legs out, as she tends to scratch them a lot – sometimes to the point where she draws blood. This leaves us in a bit of a predicament  – have a toddler who’s covered up and is too warm, or one that’s clawing at her exposed skin. As I said, it can be quite upsetting sometimes.

Over the past 18 months, we’ve tried various products – some off the shelf from the chemist, others on prescription. But we’re still yet to find a range that really suits her and she still has regular outbreaks where we have to use a steroid cream. We’ve also tried various products to put into the bath water (as well as using none) and alternatives to body wash, but they were more like creams than gels. I found them a bit odd, and we weren’t able to use them to effectively wash Taylor’s hair.

I was recently contacted by  Pai Skincare who have just launched their dedicated baby and child range – Petit Pai. The range uses only certified organic ingredients and has been especially developed for skin that is easily irritated and unsettled. The range was founded by mum of two, Sarah Brown, as a solution to her own skin condition, and it claims to be the premium choice for those who’ve tried everything in their search for skin confidence.

So after our experience with Taylor and the products we’ve tried so far, I jumped at the chance when they kindly offered us the chance to review the new Petit Pai range.

The Petit Pai products

We were sent the Apple and Mallow Blossom Face & Body Cream (£20), and the Hair & Body Wash (£18), which both come in 200ml bottles. They arrived in the beautiful packaging below and the Hair & Body wash also comes with a gentle bio-degradable konjac sponge, especially for use on baby’s delicate skin.

The Hair & Body Wash is paraben, fragrance and SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate) free and has been expertly formulated to maintain the optimum PH of babies’ skin. The Face & Body Cream (also paraben and fragrance free) claims to be rich in nourishing organic oils and butters to provide long lasting hydration and protection for sensitive and unsettled skin. It contains high performance botanicals that promote repair and leave a protective layer over the skin to prevent moisture loss.

Using Petit Pai

We initially used the Hair & Body Wash as instructed on the bottle, which is to use a pea sized amount on the sponge and work into a lather and use a pea-sized amount on the hair. We did find that we needed to use a little more than this, especially on Taylor’s hair which is getting quite long now. But the product does work into a rich lather, so a small amount goes far. If I was to make one criticism about the Hair & Body Wash, I’d say that the formula is quite runny, so you have to be careful not to squeeze too much out and waste it!

I absolutely love the texture of the Face & Body Cream, which is really thick and buttery. With some of the other creams we’ve tried, we really had to cake them on, but the richness of this cream means that you only need to put on a thin layer. It doesn’t completely disappear once rubbed in and Taylor’s skin still felt moisturised (but not at all greasy) hours after applying the cream.

As you would expect from fragrance-free products, there are no luscious smells, but when you have a child with sensitive skin the last thing you want are products that are over-perfumed and contain harsh additives.

The verdict

We’ve been using the Petit Pai Face & Body Cream and Hair & Body Wash for a total of ten days now and during that time we’ve seen a definite improvement in Taylor’s skin. We’ve had no major outbreaks and she definitely seems to be itching a lot less. The backs of her arms and the top of her thighs are usually the worst affected areas, but these are currently completely clear of any redness or dryness.

I will be coming back to update this section after we’ve been using the products for over a month. But all I can say is that so far we’ve been really impressed with the results since we started using Petit Pai. When I first saw the price tag of the products, my initial reaction was that they are quite pricey. But when I think of everything else we’ve tried, it really is a small price to pay if they continue to work as they have done so far.

This looks lovely – the price point is probably more than what I would be comfortable paying, but having said that, products such as these tend to last for ages because they’re only being used on little bodies! I’m glad it’s helping you, thank you for sharing for #KCACOLS

Ooh this looks lovely, lovely packaging (I’m a consumer sucker for nice packaging!). I’ve been looking for some lovely gentle bath stuff for my 4month old baby. I just got some Neal’s yard stuff but the baby oil in that smells like egg. Always interested in organic stuff lately I’ve been using L’Occitane which is lovey too. I have entered the comp thanks for a fab review 🙂 #KCACOLS

Oh wow, this definitely has my attention. Do you know if she ships to the US?
My son’s eczema has really had a flare lately, and I would love to change up his bath routine. The price is a little off-putting, but when dealing with all organic ingredients, I really think you’re probably getting a good deal. Thanks so much for sharing! <3 #KCACOLS

That’s really interesting. My eldest has eczema & we have also tried a range of things, none of which have really improved it. Maybe should give this a go.

Thanks so much for linking up at #KCACOLS. Hope you come back again next Sunday

    Hello !
I have been using this range for a couple of months on my son and also on myself and I am happy about the products .Especially the face and body cream that really helps out soothing my son’s sensitive skin . As for me, this is my new day and night cream all the more that I have dry/ dehydrated / sensitive skin too . I had been using some other creams by Pai and I was happy about them but my skin feels happy with the Petit Pai range and all in all it is not that expensive . Well the cleanser is a bit on the expensive side but the cream is not all the more regarding the fact you need little .
