Celebrating AW16 at Kingfisher Shopping Centre

With autumn comes the greatest season for fashion – at least in my humble no-expert-whatsoever opinion! But seriously, who doesn’t love investing in a new season coat or rediscovering that pair of (forever stylish) boots they invested in last year?

This month I was invited along to Kingfisher Shopping Centre in Redditch to celebrate the launch of AW16 fashion. Shopping for me these days can be somewhat challenging with the toddle in tow, but I was determined I wasn’t going to miss out on this one! So, off we went – armed with multiple boxes of raisins and my secret weapon (that is a bag of Pom Pom Bears #dontjudge) – in case sh** really started to go down…

Kingfisher Shopping Centre isn’t too far from us and has a great range of fashion retailers, including River Island, H&M, New Look, Primark, Next, Debenhams and Swarovski. So I was looking forward to learning more about the latest items to hit the rails.

A number of live pop-up fashion shows took place throughout the day with dancers showcasing the season’s key pieces in a series of dance performances. It was a great way of seeing what each store has on offer and get some ideas for putting outfits together. kingfisher-shopping-centre

Some of the A/W key trends that were showcased on the day…

Sportswear Luxe

All about teaming sportswear with contrasting styles – for example, adding an informal edge to a flowing skirt or tailored trousers. I’m not sure I can get away with this one personally (without feeling like I’m desperately trying to be a teenager again!) But the models made it look effortlessly cool.

Key prints

From leopard print to heritage checks, plaid skirts to classic hound’s tooth, prints are everywhere again this season. There’s a great selection of plaid skirts in New Look, and River Island also has a wide range of bold prints from leopard print joggers to camo jumpsuits.

Cold shoulders

If you’ve been in any fashion store this season, you’ll have noticed that a large number of items are missing shoulders – from casual tees and jumpers to stand out evening dresses, it’s all about naked shoulders.

Rich details

Rich fabrics such as velvet and brocades, coupled with sparkly embellishment and glamorous style essentials means that you have the perfect excuse to go a little OTT this a/w…perfect for all those (dare I say it?) Christmas parties…Swarovski have the perfect accessories to finish off those glam outfits.

Two boxes of raisins and one bag of Pom Pom Bears later, we left the centre – more inspired than ever to get investing in some more key pieces for the season!

What are you wearing this season?

I love watching anything like this. I hope the toddler enjoyed watching and no raisins were thrown at the models doing their dance! I thought the cold shoulder top/dress was a great idea in summer, but not sure about winter. Cold shoulders it really will be. x
