5 ways to achieve a modern bedroom

5-tips-for-creating-a-modern-bedroom

No matter whether you live in a flat or a mansion, whether your children are newly born or ready to flee the nest, one of the most important rooms in the house for any family member is the bedroom. The bedroom is somewhere we can really call our own and a place we can retreat to at the end of a busy day to relax and unwind. So here’s five top tips to make sure all of the bedrooms in your family home look modern and warm.

The clue is in the name – BEDroom

As your child gets older and more mature, their bedroom will need to change with them. Whether they’re making the move from crib to cot bed, child’s bed frame, single bed frame or even when they’re a bit older and demand a double bed frame, it’s important to make sure they’re comfortable. Luckily now they’re growing up in the 21st century, it’s easier than ever to buy them a new bed online. It’s important to involve them in the decision making when it comes to redesigning their room, so whether they want one in racing car red or princess pink, it’s best to discuss what they want when you decide on a new bed.

It’s not all about the kids, treat yourself

When you have little ones living in the house, it’s easy to want to spend all your money on making them happy and comfortable. But new beds and redecorating bedrooms shouldn’t just be reserved for the younger members of the family. After running around after them all day, it’s important that as parents we have somewhere welcoming to crash at the end of the day. Last year at this time I gave our modern bedroom a bit of a cosy makeover and I can never wait for my head to hit the pillow!

Our tastes and requirements don’t change as much as our kids’, so it’s important to invest in a bed that you’ll continue to love for many years and that’s both super comfortable and stylish. If you’re in need of a new bed, one of the most stylish trends at the moment is a brushed black steel bed frame.

See the light

The best way to make your bedroom look modern is with well thought-out lighting. Splashing out on new bedside lamps or a tall lamp for the corner of the room can completely transform the feel of a bedroom. Lighting is also extremely important in a bedroom when you want to settle down and read a good book or spend some quality time with your partner. Led lights are a great and cheap way of making a bedroom look modern. You can pick up a battery powered set for a few pounds and place them in a glass bowl to make a really cool looking lamp.

Add a splash of colour to make your room look 10 years younger

The most obvious telltale sign that your bedroom hasn’t had much attention over the last few years is the colour of the walls. What was once the most stylish colour could now be outdated and tired. Besides, scuff marks and scratches on the walls can be an eyesore – even if we don’t always notice them ourselves! Painting might sound like a big project but it’s an inexpensive way to create a completely new look and it shouldn’t take more than a couple of evenings to complete – especially if you rope the hubby into helping out! Make sure you show the ceiling and skirting some love as well. Although they may look white now, a lick of paint will soon show you that they’ve actually faded and become discoloured over the years.

Accessorise

After you’ve got your lighting and bed frame sorted, it’s time for the fun part – accessorise! At the moment, metallic colours like copper are very much in style. Adding a few vases, bowls or even cushions in this colour can make a room feel a lot more modern. But remember less is sometimes more… I don’t think you can beat a simple white duvet to create a modern, luxurious feel.

Seems like you’re in expert and you have a beautiful bedroom. You know, I’m a very lazy person who don’t clean before sleeping a bed. I do this only on Sunday. I go for bed very fast and leave it very late without adjusting.

Our bedroom looked great until we sidecarred the cot up against our bed! Now it’s about practicality, but can definitely make use of some accessories to jazz it up! #KCACOLS

My bedroom is so cluttered, it’s really not the relaxing retreat I’d like it to be! One day though, one day I’ll have a gorgeously styled, airy, retreat of a bedroom! x #KCACOLS
