I never thought that I would be writing/saying these words, but we’ve finally launched a vlog! It’s something I’ve been thinking about for some time now, but could never quite bring myself to do. Not least because I’m pretty self-conscious and hate the sound of my own voice, but also because I couldn’t think what I would actually talk to the camera about that I couldn’t write down on here.
But after discovering a number of vlogs from some of my favourite bloggers, I now get it. Vlogging is all about connecting with your audience in a different way and letting them get to know you far better than they can through words and photos alone. I’m also hoping that the vlog will encourage me to be more creative with certain topics and give me something extra to offer to brands when working with them on sponsored content.
So this is my first attempt right here. Albeit, a pretty rough cut…I’m hoping that my vlogging skills will improve as my blogging skills have done over time and I’ll look back at this first video one day and see how far I’ve come. I need to work on the editing and get more of an idea of my plans for the channel, but I knew that if I didn’t film something and put it out there now, then I never would!
Watching this back admittedly makes me cringe a little – I’ve never been that good at talking about myself and much prefer listening to other people’s stories over sharing my own in a crowd. But I’m hoping that the more I do this vlogging malarkey, the more confident I’ll become and the easier it will get…
One of my favourite things about blogging by far is how it constantly pushes me out of my comfort zone. Setting up a blog and putting yourself out there for anyone who ever knew you (and the rest of the world) to review, takes quite a bit of courage and self-belief in the first place. Granted, I told myself that only my friends and family would be reading it so it wasn’t such a biggy. One year on, I never thought I would be setting myself up as self-employed to work with brands, putting myself forward for (and winning) one of the biggest awards in the parent blogging community and attending blogging conferences where I didn’t know anyone. And now this…
If blogging has taught me one thing, it’s that you just have to trust your gut and go for it. If it doesn’t work, it really doesn’t matter…so here goes!
