Is it me or has winter been going on forever this year? I’m actually a fan of winter, but I have to say I literally cannot wait for warmer days now and I’m feeling better with each daffodil shoot that I see.
I love the promise that comes with Spring and the new life that you see everywhere – it just makes me want to embrace change and switch up my wardrobe and my home! I especially love updating our home at this time of year and I’m looking forward to opening the windows, letting in the fresh air and having a good ol’ clear out. As it happens, we will likely be moving house soon too, so a clear out is doubly needed in our case – no excuses this year!
So if you’re looking to update your home for Spring too, here’s some ideas to get you started…
Nothing says Spring like daffodils and they come ten a penny at this time of year. Pick yourself up a couple of bunches on your next visit to the supermarket and display throughout your house in up-cycled jars for an instant pick-me-up.
Refresh your bedspread
One of the easiest (and cheapest!) ways to update your home for Spring is to update your bedding. Be brave and go for a bright geometric or floral pattern for the ultimate transition into Spring. If you’d like more inspiration, you can read about our spring bedroom makeover.
Have a (proper!) Spring clean
I’m not shy to admit that ‘big cleans’ are not really my bag and I think (hope!) all of us are guilty of taking shortcuts when it comes to cleaning the house. But of course there’s no better time for a Spring clean than er, Spring! Wash all of those items that you wouldn’t usually do regularly such as your bathmats, cushion covers and rugs. Give your windows a good clean and dust those wardrobe tops that you haven’t looked at for the last year!
Replace your sofa cushions
You don’t need a new sofa to make your living room look brand new. Simply update your cushions with new covers and switch out fur throws and thick blankets for lighter fabrics such as cotton and linen. Adding a pop of colour or punchy patterns to your sofa will instantly transform your living room and may even be the inspiration you need for a bigger living room revamp.
Add seasonal scents
Change up all of those winter berry scented candles for the fresh floral scents of spring. There are heaps of gorgeous fragrances to choose from in the form of scented candles, or diffuser sticks if you’re after an all-day scent. If you’re stuck for inspiration, visit your local TK Max/ Homesense, or alternatively try these Spring Garden fragrance Diffuser Sticks for £24.50 from M&S.
Bring the garden inside
It may still be a little too early to venture out into the garden, but bringing the garden inside with foliage and floral displays will really help to transition your home into Spring. Go for a variety including large potted floor plants to tabletop succulents, or potted herbs on your kitchen window sill. You might also want to start about sowing some seeds indoors if you’re planning to grow your own this year.
Create a new feature wall
There are so many beautiful wallpapers available that can instantly refresh a room and add that ‘wow’ factor to your home. Floral patterns are huge this season and stripes are also a great way of adding drama to a room. My favourite wallpaper collections come from John Lewis, Farrow & Ball and Laura Ashley. If you don’t want to go to the effort of wallpapering, invest in a new piece of bright artwork, or create a gallery wall of your family memories.
