I like to think I’m pretty low maintenance and don’t really ask for much when it comes to celebrating ‘me’ (my birthday, Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day…) But there are a few things that wouldn’t go amiss this Mother’s Day. In my imaginary world, this is how it’s going to go down…
A lie in for us these days is anything after 6.30. My old student self wouldn’t have even been going to bed at that time, let alone waking up. I’ve forgot that feeling of waking up slowly, realising there’s no reason to get up and snoozing until gone 10am. I’ve aged at least five years in the last two…I just want to sleep!
The bathroom to herself
Whether it’s showering alone without a toddler trying to dance in the puddles, or going to the loo in peace, I totally took for granted those days when a trip to the bathroom was ‘me time’. Imagine a whole day of trips to the toilet without being followed. Bliss.
A poo-free day
Just one day where I don’t have to scoop poo out of nappies, out of pants, out of potties…
Breakfast in bed
Breakfast in bed is the ultimate mum treat – we don’t get to be slovenly and indulgent very often. Pancakes and a glass of bucks fizz for me please whilst I open all of those lovely presents and admire my pretty flowers (My hubby does not have the greatest track record, but I live in hope)…
New clothes – for herself
Since becoming a mum, my wardrobe has suffered immensely. In between the guilt of spending money on myself and the hell on earth that is shopping with a toddler, fashion has gone out of the window. Taylor’s wardrobe on the other hand is way better than mine! I would absolutely love to buy some new items for Spring – like these pretty dresses from JD Williams.
A hot cup of tea
And not one that’s been in the microwave. Just a fresh, hot brew that I can relax with and enjoy without having to attend to a poonami episode, or a Play-Doh catastrophe.
To tell Peppa Pig to do one
You know that the Peppa Pig habit is getting unhealthy when your TV keeps asking you ‘Are you still watching Peppa Pig?’ (I know Netflix, I can’t quite believe it either)…A day in our house without the constant demands for ‘PIG!!!!!’, where I can watch a chick flick all to myself would be just fabulous.
Okay, it’s never going to happen but we can dream.
A laundry service
I don’t mind the cleaning (okay, I hate it), but my least favourite part of my weekly mum chores is most definitely the laundry. All of those little items take so fricking long to fold up and put away. It’s a never ending, thankless task that gives me absolutely zero satisfaction. A laundry service would be all of my Mother’s Days come at one. A cleaner who does the laundry would be even better…
What would you like this Mother’s Day?
