One of the first rooms I’m planning to decorate when we move is a more ‘grown up’ toddler bedroom for Taylor. Our forthcoming move and arrival of our baby boy coincides well with needing to get her out of her cot and into a ‘big girl bed’. So it’s the perfect time to create something special for her.
With all of the changes she’s about to experience, I really want to create a stimulating space for her that she can call her own and (hopefully) love. So I’m crossing my fingers that I’ll have a few weeks in the new house to get her new room ready before our new bundle arrives!!
A peach and gold theme
As you can imagine with a house move underway, my Pinterest boards have been pretty active recently! (Where did we find our inspiration before Pinterest??)
I particularly love the combination of peach/coral and gold. The theme above is so pretty, but I’d like to give it a little more ‘punch’ to match Taylor’s feisty and adventurous personality. Perhaps by using a stronger peach, as opposed to a romantic pink. I’m also considering adding a further accent colour such as navy or mint. What do you think?
One thing’s for certain, I’m definitely going to source some of these gold spot wall stickers and I think this light shade from IKEA is just perfect! I also love the idea of lots of fun cushions and a sheepskin rug to soften up the room and add interest – I’m not sure how long the rug will stay white for though!
I’ll also be adding a garland of some sort, or possibly some pom poms to display above her bed. I wish I could say that I’ll make them myself, but I know there’s no chance!
I really don’t think you have can have too much typography in a toddler bedroom – it adds an element of fun and personality to a room. I’m loving these black and white prints, but I may have to go for something a little less Scandi if the room ends up being more muted.
I really can’t decide on whether we go for a cabin bed or a low one. I really like the idea of this one from IKEA, which you can adjust as your toddler grows. But I also think you can never have enough storage with young kids and a bed like the one below would be ideal…To be honest, moving Taylor out of her cot still scares the hell out of me, since she’s currently going through another one of those ‘sleep phases’ (as in she doesn’t want to go to sleep!)
Her frequent demands for water, cuddles, tissues, Daddy etc, are all just a ploy to escape her cot. I take solitude in knowing that she can’t climb out of there at the moment!
But I know it’s time and I’m hoping that giving her this new independence may be just what she needs (she says with bated breath)…Surely a bed with steps to get out of will be more effort for her to constantly climb out of?? Or is that just me being mean? Lol.
Either way, I don’t think a girl’s toddler bedroom is complete without one of these canopies above the bed – so cute!
Ikea hacks I’m loving
Having said that, I also love all of the hacks you can do with the IKEA Kura bed and love the idea of creating a little reading nook in the space below the bed…
It seems I’ll be planning a trip to IKEA regardless, so I will most likely be picking up this desk and these spice racks to!
Now I just have to plan our new (baby boy) nursery! Yes…I already have a whole board dedicated to this over on my Pinterest too!
What do you think?
