I was recently contacted by the team at Intu Merry Hill to take part in their autumn fashion haul challenge. Intu Merry Hill is one of my go-to places for a shopping splurge – not that I get too many of those these days as a mum of two! But I find it so convenient since parking is free and all of my favourite retailers are under one roof.
Autumn has always been my favourite time of year for shopping. I love the staples of this season and enjoy nothing more than investing in a new winter coat and pair of ankle boots. It’s also my birthday, and if you can’t treat yourself on your birthday, then when can you?
Our eldest is now at pre-school during the week, so I went along with the two month old – who quite frankly is a dream shopping in comparison to a two year old! I had to be back for the school run so didn’t have long for the trip, but once I was at the centre I was able to dash from one shop to the next. And I’m now the proud owner of a whole new wardrobe for the season…
My autumn/winter picks
Walk into any shop this season and it’s obvious that red is big right now. This is a welcome change from my usual grey/black winter staples. I’ve already brought out the red nail polish and I’ve been on the hunt for a red jumper that I could team up with my trusty old jeans for an instant style update.
I found this one in H&M and instantly fell in love. It also has ballon sleeves, ticking another style box for the season. I’ve even been wearing red lipstick of late which is a change from my usual neutral shades. And I feel good for it.
If you’re not ready to go quite so bold, try adding red accessories for a pop of colour.
Boho vibes are everywhere with whimsical floral dresses, tapestry fabrics and faux furs. I’m not a huge fan of this trend to be honest, purely because I prefer more tailored shapes. However I do love the embroidered fabrics and colourful patterns that have come out of this trend.
I have a bit of a thing for shirts and picked up these two. The embroidered one is Red Herring in Debenhams and the flowered print is from Topshop. I’m so pleased that denim skirts are back again for another year, and love this shirt-skirt combination (skirt from Topshop).
Sharp suiting is a key trend for autumn/winter. If, like me, you don’t get suited and booted for the office (and you can’t think of anything worse than wearing a suit in the name of fashion!), opt for one of the blazers that adorn the rails of the High Street. Even better, go for a checked one if you want to be bang on trend.
This one is from Topshop for £39 and I know that it will go with pretty much every outfit I own.
I couldn’t leave the centre without picking up a new winter coat and fell in love with this navy number from Red Herring – I also thought it was a bargain and great quality for £49.
I didn’t have much time for accessory shopping, but was determined to pick up some gold hoop earrings before I left. I love it when a fashion I used to love comes back around and the teenager in me couldn’t resist. Dainty jewellery is also everywhere this year and I fell for this sweet necklace with my initial. Both items are from Topshop.
What do you think of my selection? Have you managed to invest in any new items for Autumn yet? Do you have an Intu centre near you?
