My favourite moments from 2017 – and plans for the year ahead

2018 diary

Wow, where did 2017 go?? It was a pretty monumental year for us with the arrival of baby number two and relocating to a new city. On a personal note I seemed to learn a lot about myself last year and for the first time in my life I felt completely and utterly content.

2018 diary

I like to use this space to reflect on life and document our days, so couldn’t bypass the New Year without a quick run-down of my favourite moments from 2017, and a brief look at our plans for the year ahead.

Family holidays in Dubai

We kick-started the year with a family holiday to Dubai where we saw in the New Year. We’ve visited my sister’s family over there a few times now and I love it more each time we visit. It has so much on offer for families and we had such a brilliant time on our last holiday abroad as a family of three. We returned in October as a family of four – along with my parents – and enjoyed it even more!

Meeting Harry

Of course the best moment of our year was the arrival of our son, Harry (not so much the hours before!!) I can’t imagine life without him now and he has completed our little family in so many ways. His big sister adores him and watching them together is the best feeling in the world. He puts a smile on my face every single hour of every day. I’m smitten.

A heatwave on the south coast

With a baby on the way and a house move around the corner, we decided to stay in the UK for our summer holiday and took a trip to the south coast in June. Coincidentally, it also happened to be the hottest week of the year and we took full advantage of the heat and the laid back feels on the beaches of Devon and Cornwall.

Moving into our forever home

In June the wait was finally over and we got our hands on the keys to our forever home. We took the plunge to move to a new city (Worcester) and found the house of our dreams. The house, the village, the school and our new lives here have exceeded our expectations in so many ways and for the first time in my life I have a sense of belonging that I’ve never had before.

Letting go of perfect

At some point along the path of 2017 I seem to have stumbled upon my happy place. I wasn’t really looking for it as such, but it was a bi-product of everything we had going on, which meant I took my foot of the gas and stopped putting so much pressure on myself.

I started looking after myself more and doing more of the things that make me happy, as opposed to the things I felt I should be doing. I realised that I’m a great mum, a good person and I started to appreciate the things I’m good at – rather than beating myself up over the things I feel I should be better at. This had repercussions for the blog, but I’m a better person for it.

Our plans for 2018

2018 will be a year of house renovations as we start to put our own stamp on our new family home. We renovated the lounge in December (which I’ll soon share on here), and we have the builders due to make a start on our open plan kitchen/living area over the next few weeks.

We don’t have any travel plans yet, but I fancy something a little different this year – perhaps a cruise or a drive through Europe.

I’m still on maternity leave for some time but I have a new online venture I’d like to pursue for work separate from the blog – one that will hopefully add a new income stream to the hubby’s business. Fingers crossed.

I’ll also be making some changes to the blog going forward and may change its direction somewhat, but I’m still milling this over in my head…watch this space.

A very Happy New Year to you all and wishing you lots of content and fun-filled times ahead!
